Embellishments: Special Effects to Give Your Printing the "WOW" Factor

Digital technology provides countless options for applying embellishments and special effects to printing. Whether you're looking to add a touch of elegance, tactility, custom shapes or a shimmering metallic, special effects are designed to be noticed.

Why use special effects?

Special effects can be used for many different purposes:

  • Highlight details in images or text
  • Make your logo stand out
  • Provide contrast
  • Create a more distinctive appearance
  • Protection and longevity.

Combined with an eye-catching design, they create a piece that people want to reach out and touch, or pick up and take home with them.

Let’s take a look at some of the special effects that Express Print & Mail can create.

Business card designed by Express Print & Mail Hervey Bay for Brisbane Barrister Renee Berry.  Black + Spot UV Front & Black Back on 420gsm Hi Bulk Artboard. Matt celloglaze both sides.

Spot UV/Clear Dry Ink

Give your print job that extra lift by using a Spot UV or Clear Dry Ink as an embellishment to highlight images, headings or create a distinctive background through your job. Whilst Spot UV is more suited to longer run offerings, we can also offer a Clear Dry Ink for short run digital.

Foiling and embossing

Create that distinctive look and bring a tactile feel to your printed product with the addition of either foiling or embossing (or you can even use both). With a range of different foil options and the ability to create custom emboss patterns, talk to the team at EPM to create the look that will make your printed product stand out from the crowd.

Celloglazing

Add a celloglaze to your business card, brochure, presentation folders or book covers for vibrancy or protection. Available in standard gloss and matt options as well as anti-scuff, velvet and a variety of speciality options, there really is something to suit every job.

Die Cutting

Open up a world of custom shapes with die cutting. Using a special steel tool which cuts out your desired shape, it is perfect for adding that extra flair to your business cards, labels, flyers, stickers, presentation folders or even book covers. Designs can also include perforations and creases.

Digital white, gold and silver

Until recently, when you wanted an element of your job to print white, you had to reverse the type from the background. New technology and the development of white inks allow for more flexibility and creativity when printing white on darker stocks.

Our state-of-the-art Fuji Xerox Iridesse printer can produce eye-catching and highly reflective metallic colours as well as White Dry and Clear Dry Ink. Colours can also be customised, opening up a whole new world of creative finishing options.

Varnishing

The application of spot varnish in either gloss, satin or matt can highlight selected areas of your brochure or business card, adding shine and depth to elements such as logos and images or can be applied to the entire job to provide additional protection against scuffing and damage.

ApplicAtion of effects and embellishments

Most of these effects can be added to a wide range of print jobs including:

  • Brochures and flyers
  • Business cards
  • Postcards
  • Company profiles
  • Magazines
  • Invitations.
