Moments in Time: stunning book captures the story of the Fraser Coast

Photos have a significant role to play in remembering our history. They tell the stories of our towns and the people who shaped our communities.

A stunning new book printed by Express Print & Mail captures the history of the Fraser Coast, preserving important stories and images for future generations.

Moments in Time: A pictorial history of the Fraser Coast 1867 to 2020 features spectacular images, interesting facts and stories that tell a vivid history of the region.

Museums collaborate on 200-page hard cover book

Express Print & Mail had the privilege of designing and printing the 200-page hard cover book which was championed and funded by the Hervey Bay Historical Village and Museum.

Nine local historical organisations supplied information for their own section of the book: Bauple Museum, Brooweena Museum, Howard and District Museum, Wide Bay Hospitals Museum, Maryborough Military and Colonial Museum, Maryborough Wide Bay & Burnett Historical Society and the Hervey Bay Historical Village and Museum.

Preserving our history

Fifth generation local and Moments in Time author John Andersen said the book, which is the second volume in a series about the region, is selling fast with the first print run of 1500 almost sold out.

The community has a huge interest in historical photos according to John, and the project team wanted to create a printed book as a tangible way to preserve our history in perpetuity.

“We consider ourselves as caretakers of information for the future. We don’t own it but are looking after it for future generations. Photos that may have ended up in the tip are now here and people in 50 years’ time will be able to look back and learn about our history. Without this book, it could never have happened. It is gratifying and very exciting,” Mr Andersen said.

Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour suggested the book after the immense success of volume one, a pictorial history of Hervey Bay, which was launched in 2019 and went on to win a major national prize.

Locally designed and printed

Copies of this latest book, which covers the entire region, have been supplied to the contributing museums to sell as well as the National Library in Canberra, Queensland State Library and local libraries. It is hoped that copies can also be made available to local schools.

Express Print & Mail became part of the project team to deliver both design and printing.

Having access to a local Hervey Bay printer meant the combined team could collaborate on the project to achieve optimum results.

“The whole exercise was like clockwork,” John said. “One thing that amazed us was the quality of the print. When you pick up a book like this, you notice the quality. The paper, printing and binding is beyond our expectations and the dust cover just makes it extra special.”

“We are delighted with the end result. Wendy, Glenn and the Express Print & Mail team were so helpful and great to deal with. It feels amazing to have a hard copy of something like this in your hands, especially when it has been designed and printed locally.”
